Autumn in Dubrovnik region brings cooler weather and warm colors. Summer in Dubrovnik region is the liveliest time of the year. Very hot summers and long sunny days are ideal for all types of water sports such as kayaking, diving, swimming, wind surfing and sailing. Summer days are ideal for long walks in one of the many parks and botanical gardens.
Visit the Locrum Island in Dubrovnik archipelago. Evergreen Mediterranean island has always been a city's natural defense from the enemy and strong winds. Its name derives from the Latin name Acrumen meaning citrus fruit - the name for the sour fruit and oranges that prospered very well on the island. It was inhabited in the times of Illyrians or Greeks, and the inhabitants were monks and priests. During the Dubrovnik Republic a Benedictine monastery was erected, as well as botanical gardens throughout the island, greenhouses, a garden of Mediterranean plants, orchard, flower garden, and mansion, olive grove which has been preserved until today, vines, other vegetables, herbs and trees... The priests were taking care of everything. Over 60 species of exotic plants have been cultivated on the island. Today, the entire island is a special reserve of forest vegetation.
